On all other roads the general speed limit is 80 km/h, unless a lesser one is indicated. In built up areas the speed limit is generally 50 km/h. Q What is the crime rate like in the Paphos areaA Crime rates are very low in Cyprus and theft is not commonplace. Sockets are usually 13 amp, square pin in most buildings. Q Can I drink tap waterA water quality in Paphos is monitored by the Health Inspectors of the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health and the Local Authorities. Food and drinking water are of a high quality and absolutely safe. But bottled water is readily available from all kiosks and supermarkets if you prefer. Q Will I need to be able to speak GreekA No English is widely spoken and French and German are also spoken within the Cyprus tourism industry Q Can I use my mobile phone in CyprusA: Please check with your airtime provider some locations may be unsuitable. Q: Is Travel Insurance Required? Q How much currency can I take with meA: There is no limit on how much currency you take out of the UK. The Cyprus Government allows you to bring in or take out up to CY£500 in local currency. Credit cards are widely accepted. You can also withdraw money from cash machines. Q Can I receive my pension in Cyprus? A UK pensions are easily transferable to Cyprus. For individuals, CYP 2,000 of pension income from abroad is received tax free p.a., and thereafter income tax is applied at the very low rate of 5% to amounts above this. Additionally, Cyprus has double taxation agreements in place with many countries including the UK to prevent double taxation of income. Q What about insects and wildlife A Ants, lizards, wasps, spiders, field mice, snakes, field rats etc. are not uncommon in Cyprus as in all Mediterranean countries Mosquitoes can be an annoyance and so we recommend that you bring a suitable lotion or repellent. Q Can you tell me about the Golf CoursesA There are 4 Championship Golf Courses currently in the Paphos area at Tsada, Secret Valley and the Prestigious Aphrodite Hills only a 15-20 minute drive away from the town centre. Q Can I get married in CyprusA Yes, this beautiful romantic island has become a popular destination for weddings and those wishing to renew marriage vows. A Beaches in Cyprus all have blue flag status and are amongst the cleanest in the Mediterranean. During the very hot months you may find small jellyfish coming into the shallow waters and these may sting if touched.
